Hope everyone is enjoying a fantastic Saturday!

Here is the pic of Pork & Apple Pie:

Tastes way better than it sounds or looks

Last night while my boy ate Pork and Apple Pie, he asked if I would bike with him to the gym, work out, and bike back. Of course I agreed! So this morning I munched on two of these:

Then we hit the sidewalk. We biked about 43:30, got to my apartment (which is right by the gym). At this point I was HUNGRY so I had a snack-

Half of this

Half of this

1/2 0% Greek Yogurt + 1/2 scoop chocolate whey protein powder

1/2 0% Greek Yogurt + 1/2 scoop chocolate whey protein powder

I love my protein powder, greek yogurt combo- like chocolate pudding- except protein-alicious!

Then we walked half mile to the gym, did 30 minutes of weights, 30 minutes of elliptical, walked a half mile back. By this time we were REALLY hungry, so I made us a green monster! HE LOVED IT!!

He almost finished it before I could snap a pic

In the mix: cup spinach, 2 T Dark Chocolate Dreams, 1 scoop Chocolate Whey Protein powder, 1 cup light plain soy milk, 1/2 banana, 3 strawberries, 1/4 cup blue berries, 1 T flax seeds. He had about 3/4 and I had the rest and some golean with soy milk (not pictured) and the other half of my greek yogurt with protein powder. We then headed back and made it home in about 38 minutes. We had no idea how far we biked, so I plugged it in mapmyrun.com and it turned out to be 14.4 miles! Holy cow. So much fun 🙂

I snacked on this bar:

I love it!! It tasted like peanut butter!!! So full of good fats and protein and I can read all the ingredients. I think it’s love. Definitely a meal replacement, but a worthy one. The boy snacked on Pork & Apple Pie (I snuck some too), then my hunger came screaming back and I had some Quaker WeightControl Maple & Brown Sugar oatmeal.

Halfway through- you can see evidence on the side of the bowl

Sigh. I love that stuff. I haven’t had it in months, but I found a packet I had left over here, and it’s such a wonderful and filling snack!

In a little bit I’m heading to a natural yogurt place for “appetizers” with one of my friends 🙂 They sell Zico and I’m psyched to try one!

What is your favorite post-workout treat? Mine would have to be a green monster!

What was your joy today?

Woke up this morning to an email saying I had a paper due by 10 am. My morning workout went out the window and I cranked out the paper while eating banana-cocoa-egg-white oatbran (no picture since I was in paper-mode). This breakfast held me for a SOLID three hours. Yay! Afterwards I decided to go to my favorite store in the world: Whole Foods.

I found lots of gems including these:

Treats!

After I go to the grocery store, especially Whole Foods, I always want to try everything I have just bought. Instead I picked one to have with my Bender inspired coffee cocoa:

THIS LUNA BAR IS SO DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!! I highly recommend it!

Today I have had no peanut butter! Yikes! Hopefully I’ll have some soon…

But now I’m going to finish some research then do some Jillian Michaels (woo 30-Day challenge!) and some Power Vinyasa 2 from yogadownload.com. I need to center myself before a very long 6 hours of class.

Question of the Day:

What is your favorite Luna bar flavor?

BnPB Redemption

CRICKEY! That breakfast cookie was delicious^10! I think I’m more obsessed with it than I was with oatbran (which I didn’t think was possible).

Dear Gina,

Your breakfast cookie idea made the best breakfast a stressed out and starving graduate student could ever ask for.

Love,

Juli

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way- here is the pic:

1/3 c oats, 1 T PnBP, 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1/2 banana, stevia and cinnamon

1/3 c oats, 1 T PnBP, 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1/2 banana, stevia and cinnamon

Note that this sucker had a 1 T BnPB. Due to the sheer deliciousness of this I would purposefully buy BnPB just for this cookie. Although, I should probably definitely try it with other nut butter to compare. But, in the words of the famous and well-loved VeggieGirl, HOLY YUM.

The ingredients: 1/3 c oats, T BnPB, 1/2 scoop soy vanilla protein powder, 1/8 c lite vanilla soy milk, 1/2 banana, packet stevia, cinnamon, and lots of love

The stats: 312 calories, 5.2 g Fat (18%), 43 g Carbs (50%), 21 g Protein (28%). I’ll be interested to see how well it holds me- as fat usually keeps me fuller for longer (like my muse Heather). I think that’s the achilles heel of BnPB- not enough fat! But we’ll see. Also, as Caitlin knows, I’m trying to up my bfast calories. Maybe I should add more oats/PB to this to get more bang for my buck… Any thoughts?

Now to drink my coffee, do work, then I have meetings for 11 straight hours. Why are Wednesdays so terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days?

Question: What is your favorite breakfast? The one that just thinking about will pull you out of bed no matter how you are feeling?

I am SORE from P90x Yoga yesterday. Holy moly. I just did this workout and it was phenomenal (thank you FitnessNYC)! I adapted it a little bit- I jogged the recovery minutes and put it on an incline, but I covered 4.75 miles in 45 minutes. Not too shabby!

I’m now sitting down to work with a fantastic cup of Nutella coffee (inspired by Heather and Bender).

Yes, please.

Yes, please.

It’s a cup of coffee, a scoop of Ghiradelli unsweetened cocoa powder, packet of TJ’s stevia, and Silk Hazelnut creamer. I look forward to it every day. Since I started drinking coffee every morning, I now sleep like a baby every night. I used to get up 3-4 times, but now I sleep like a rock. Any thoughts as to why this is happening? I’m not complaining 🙂 I lo’ it!

Today I have five consecutive hours of class, so I will be able to put Better N’ Peanut Butter to the test. Usually as a snack to power me through classes I have peanut butter on crackers and it can hold me over three hours. Today I’ll do the same, but with BnPB. I must admit, I’m not looking forward to eating it- which is probably a sign to where my review is going. For breakfast I had a huge bowl of cereal, because I simply didn’t want my oats with BnPB. Sad. Although, I will say Puffins are delicious!!!! I am so glad I discovered these lil nuggets of yumminess.

I didn't even lick the spoon after making these...

I didn't even lick the spoon after making these...

So tonight the world shall know- did BnPB on crackers satiate PBJuli through 5 grueling hours of class?

Question of the day:

What is your favorite snack to carry you through a long day?

Humpday Hangover

Hey y’all!

I have class on Wednesdays from 10am-10:30pm, so yesterday was a crazy day. I finally got home at 11:45 and was so wound up I couldn’t even fathom sleep until 1 am. I keep thinking I should do some yoga to make me start to slow down. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I went to sleep with the intention of doing 3 miles and strength training first thing, but woke up hungry, tired, and overwhelmed. So I got up and made this delicious concoction and did an easy level of Jillian Michael’s 30-Day-Shred:

dsc_00052

1/2 cup TJ’s oatbran, 1/2 banana, 1/2 c water, 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk, 1 T pb. Looks bland, but tasted good and filled me up for several hours. However, I wish it looked a whole heckuva lot more like this. I mean, so droolworthy! I aspire to that!

I had to get some work done (I had a presentation), so I threw together a lunch and snack to get me until 5:

Chobani vanilla, blueberries, black berries, 2T pumpkin, other half my banana, crushed walnuts

I think the Chocolate Brownie is way too sweet for a snack as it doesn’t leave me fully satiated. Next week I want to have more salads in my life…

Speaking of which, I met up with a friend for dinner at Sprout- this amazing make your own salad place. I had: tofu, avocado, cucumber, broccoli, red pepper, celery, and apple, with balsamic on the side to dip in. DIVINE. I wish wish wish I had a picture of it. Sad.

Hope all are well and Happy Almost Friday!

Coffee-Infused Joy

Today I woke up in a wonderful mood. I set my timer on my coffee-maker a few minutes before my alarm, and I think that set the tone for my morning- I was excited to get out of bed for my morning cuppa! MMMM.

Then I made a very inspired bowl of oat bran (although their toppings seem more more exciting than mine!):

  • 1/2 cup oat bran
  • 1.25 cup water
  • 2 T pumpkin
  • 2 T vanilla soy milk
  • Pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 T carob chips
  • spoonful chocolate PB

DELISH! The carob chips melted into the bowl and the chocolate PB with every bite was a perfect combo.

It’s rainy here in the Bay Area- so I’m going to hit up the gym and try the 45-minute treadmill work out I read about. I’ll let you know how it goes!

PBJ OUT!

Today I have no meetings, no classes… nothing (except a ton of work!). I started by hitting snooze long enough to appreciate listening to the rain on the roof. I rolled out of bed, made a 1/2 cup oat bran in 1.25 cups water with a T of PB. I then did Bar Method ‘s Accelerated Workout DVD. I love it because it gently gets my heart rate up but also makes me stretch!

I came home and had a proteinalicious snack with two Lightlife Smart Dogs and a cup of spinach topped with ketchup… yum! I also made a delicious cup of coffee with half a packet of hot chocolate and 2 T Silk Hazelnut creamer. Heaven in a cup.

Hopefully I’ll get my camera connection cord soon so I can add pictures and pretend to be as awesome as all the other bloggers out there. For now it’s time to research early childhood math education. Yippee!

Happy President’s Day!
