Perfect Foods GIVEAWAY!

Ladies and Gentlemen!!!

The wonderful people at Perfect Foods sent me a sampler to try out.

Yay! As a peanut butter lover, as well as a healthy food lover, these bars are perfect. In 1995 Dr. Bud Keith and his wife Barbara forumlated a healthy snack for their friends and family by adding whole food supplements to a smooth blend of raw honey and organic peanut butter. I am a huge fan of healthy fats, lots of protein, vitamins, and ingredient lists that I can read. Perfect Foods bars fulfill all of these, and I truly believe they are perfect. Many meal replacement bars leave me hungry soon afterwards.  After eating one of these bars, not only am I satiated for a long time, but I feel good about what I have eaten.  I know that I have put healthy, whole foods in my body.  I have given it carbs, protein, and fat in one tasty bar.  Each bar has approximately 283 calories, 15 grams of fat (2 g saturated 13 g polyunsaturated), 3 mg Cholesterol, 95 mg Sodium, 520 mg Potassium, 26 g Carbs, 4 g Figer, 16 g Sugars, and 18 g Protein. The bars have 25% Vitamin A, 100% Vitamin C, 35% Calcium, 40% Iron, 100% Vitamin E, 25% Thiamin, 15% Riboflavin, 20% Niacin, 25% Vitamin B6, 25%Folate, 25% Vitamin B12, 30% Biotin, 20% Pantothenic Acid, 30% Phosphorus, 25% Magnesium, 30% Zinc, 25% Copper, 25% Manganese, and 20% Chromium. WOW!

Now you are probably asking yourself, “What weird things are in these bars?” In the Fruit and Nut bars (which are gluten free!) the ingredients are: Peanut Butter, Raw unheated buddy bee honey, milk protein, eg protein, raisins, walnuts, rice protien, dried whole food powders (sunflower seed, sesame seed, flax seed, rice bran, rose-hip, orange, lemon, grapefruit, tomato, apple, bell pepper, papaya, mango, black cherry, cranberry, fig, alfalfa, celery, spinach, parsley, mink, kelp, dulse), olive oil, sunflower seed oil, sesame seed oil, flax seed oil, pumpkin seed oil, almond oil, and rice bran oil. HOLY AMAZING! Many of these ingredients are organic, also!

The texture of these bars are thick and they crumble deliciously in your mouth. The taste of peanut butter and honey are strong in the Fruit and Nut bar, with a few raisins throughout the bar– so wonderful.

While my day was made by having this amazing on-the-go breakfast (also can be lunch or post-workout snack or ANYTHING!)- I know many of you have not been able to try these delicious and nutricious bars.

drumroll please…

While I’ve been trying to listen hard to my body and the foods that make me feel great and those that don’t– I have found two snacks that not only keep me full, but make me feel light.  I love energy bars– as a student I need quick and easy things that I can carry around all day in my backpack. These items fit the bill perfectly.

(Drumroll please….)

Healthy Baking Company’s CALIFORNIA SUNCAKES! These come in HeartThrives (a pack of two) or SunCakes (one hockeypuck of deliciousness). I love the HeartThrives as a snack and the SunCakes as an on-the-go breakfast.

Since I know it’s difficult to read sideways (but more difficult for me to turn the photos), I’ll just tell you: 158 cals per heart, 40% Fiber, 40% Calcium, 25% Protein. It is vegan and wheat-free.

Here is BSE #2:

I love PerfectFoods Bars- but one is usually a meal-replacer. I just found these “Lite” ones which are perfect in size! Again these are choc-block FULL of healthy fats and the ingredients are beautiful and natural.

So you might ask- why isn’t she telling us MORE about each product? Well, I can’t say yet, but in the next few weeks, if you are lucky, there may be some product reviews and you may win a chance to try some of these great products! We’ll see how the cookie crumbles 🙂

Have a great affectionate day today! I’m knocking out my to-do list and excited for dance class tonight.

As I mentioned in my last post I find it difficult to post everyday, as I have a crazy schedule right now (lots of travelling- two week spring breaks are the best!).  I am also in the middle of trying to figure out my life next year. I’m kinda really type-A and want to know everything early and to PLAN AHEAD and have all my ducks in a nice row long before I have to. For several reasons that isn’t possible right now, and I am learning the hard lesson of letting life unfold. So please pray for us that things work out 🙂 We need all the positive thoughts we can get!

Without further ado here are some Baking delights and some eats–

My sister sent me a package in the mail a week or so ago. I opened it and found a ziplock bag of mush. It was actually yeast! She had sent me Amish friendship bread, so for the next ten days, my little sack of yeast came with me as I mushed the bag every day and added to it, etc.

Finally, it was day 10 and time to make the friendship bread!

There they are baking away- getting HUGE! I don’t have bread pans 😦 But I made muffins and mini muffins instead– here is how they turned out:

Mini-muffins! YUM! The bread is cinnamon and sugary. Very unhealthy, but DIVINE 🙂 I hope some of you get some in the mail!

The next morning I had oatbran with skim milk and peanut butter. I am loving the PB drizzle- I heat the PB in the microwave to get a nice drizzle:

Then, unexpectedly, I had to rush out of town, but I was able to grab this sucker on the way out the door:

Perfect Foods Carob Chip. So delicious- even my boyfriend liked it!

Here are the stats (if you can see them):

This deliciousness held me for awhile… mmmm…

Later I bought this:

I am loving this puppy. It’s interesting though- I have now done two workouts with it- a 4+ mile run and P90X Plyometrics, and for each I would have thought I burned a ton more calories than I did. I’m glad to have this as a “reality check” to how much I am burning and need to refuel. Plus, it definitely made me realize why I may have struggled dropping weight in the past and excelled at putting on the pounds- TOTALLY thinking I burn more than I do!

This morning for breakfast we were at my boyfriend’s parents’ house and his Mama made us Dutch babies for breakfast: dscn1508

I tried to get his Chocolate Lab in the pic who was hiding under the table hoping for a bite! We also had a side of fruit:

I could only eat half the Dutch Baby (it’s essentially 3 eggs, flour, and milk- so heavy!) but all my fruit 🙂

Unsure what I’ll do for dinner- my appetite has been a bit off with stress and a sore throat. I’m thinking a stirfry sounds fabulous! Then we’re off to San Fran for a night out 🙂

Have a great Saturday night!

Hello Bloggie world!

I’m currently in Medford, Oregon visiting/taking care of my 89-years-young grandmother. I have sporadic internet access and not a ton of time, so I’ll resume posting tomorrow or Thursday. I already have 83 postings to read in my Google Reader! Yikes! I’ll try to read them all, but commenting may be at an all time low for now 😦 Sorry. But y’all are amazing and I love you all.

Quick thoughts-

  1. I will post the recipe to Pork and Apple Pie– it’s a keeper, especially for the men in your lives.
  2. I find Perfect Foods bars in Whole Foods- they are refrigerated. When I get back to Cali-ali I’ll post more specifics on them and their stats.
  3. I had an amazing bowl of oats this morning at the buffet and my grandmother’s assisted living dining room: oats, cottage cheese, cinnamon, granola, grape nuts, drizzled with peanut butter and a side of egg whites. I ate 2 hours ago and I’m still SO FULL (usually unheard of). I wish I had a picture, but I’m not sure that would be cool- and I really want to be cool 😉
  4. Had Cabbage and Spatzel soup last night for dinner- was so good. There was a spice in there I just could NOT figure out. I am determined to figure it out.
  5. Worked out in the fitness center here last night at 9:30 pm. I never work out at night, but my boyfriend wanted to, and it was actually a great way to end the day. I think the trick is to have a buddy and a super convenient location, otherwise I would definitely talk myself out of it. I did a tough 40 minutes on the elliptical incline 9, level 12. My heart was pounding! The fitness center also has cool weight machines that are air compressed to determine how much weight you lift. So neat and scientifically advanced- hehehe.

Take care everyone!

Here is an old picture of my grandmother and me-

Question: Do you work out at night ever? Does it keep you awake or help you sleep?

Hope everyone is enjoying a fantastic Saturday!

Here is the pic of Pork & Apple Pie:

Tastes way better than it sounds or looks

Tastes way better than it sounds or looks

Last night while my boy ate Pork and Apple Pie, he asked if I would bike with him to the gym, work out, and bike back. Of course I agreed! So this morning I munched on two of these:

Then we hit the sidewalk. We biked about 43:30, got to my apartment (which is right by the gym). At this point I was HUNGRY so I had a snack-

Half of this

Half of this

1/2 0% Greek Yogurt + 1/2 scoop chocolate whey protein powder

1/2 0% Greek Yogurt + 1/2 scoop chocolate whey protein powder

I love my protein powder, greek yogurt combo- like chocolate pudding- except protein-alicious!

Then we walked half mile to the gym, did 30 minutes of weights, 30 minutes of elliptical, walked a half mile back. By this time we were REALLY hungry, so I made us a green monster! HE LOVED IT!!

He almost finished it before I could snap a pic

He almost finished it before I could snap a pic

In the mix: cup spinach, 2 T Dark Chocolate Dreams, 1 scoop Chocolate Whey Protein powder, 1 cup light plain soy milk, 1/2 banana, 3 strawberries, 1/4 cup blue berries, 1 T flax seeds. He had about 3/4 and I had the rest and some golean with soy milk (not pictured) and the other half of my greek yogurt with protein powder. We then headed back and made it home in about 38 minutes. We had no idea how far we biked, so I plugged it in mapmyrun.com and it turned out to be 14.4 miles! Holy cow. So much fun 🙂

I snacked on this bar:

I love it!! It tasted like peanut butter!!! So full of good fats and protein and I can read all the ingredients. I think it’s love. Definitely a meal replacement, but a worthy one. The boy snacked on Pork & Apple Pie (I snuck some too), then my hunger came screaming back and I had some Quaker WeightControl Maple & Brown Sugar oatmeal.

Halfway through- you can see evidence on the side of the bowl

Halfway through- you can see evidence on the side of the bowl

Sigh. I love that stuff. I haven’t had it in months, but I found a packet I had left over here, and it’s such a wonderful and filling snack!

In a little bit I’m heading to a natural yogurt place for “appetizers” with one of my friends 🙂 They sell Zico and I’m psyched to try one!

What is your favorite post-workout treat? Mine would have to be a green monster!

Daily Joy: Biking down a tree lined street with the spring air and soft sun with my boyfriend right next to me.

What was your joy today?
