Viva las Vegas

Okay, as requested here is a sampling of my trip!

After doing half of P90x Synergistics and a quick 4-mile run, my boyfriend and our close friend (and an amazing, intelligent, and hilarious guy) left on Sunday and headed to Vegas. I really wish I hadn’t put my camera in the trunk as the geography was gorgeous. We drove from the Bay Area down to Vegas so we saw lush rolling green mountains, an ENORMOUS resevoir that was beautiful, and then desert full of cacti. We got in, checked into the Monte Carlo and began walking around. My boyfriend put a dollar in a slot machine, pulled it twice and kept losing. I pulled it and we won! I immediately hit “Cash Out” and walked away with a voucher for $1.25. A 25% increase in our money! hehehe 🙂 We saw a fountain show at the Bellagio, to Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me to The Moon, which I loved. We walked around the Bellagio, which has stunning Dave Chihuly everywhere, a wonderful garden, and a chocolate fountain. Again, I was lame and forgot my camera (and it’s a large Nikon D40 so not that easy to walk around with). We also wandered around Ceasar’s Palace and made dinner reservations at Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill for the next night!

The next day our friend Tommy and I went on a fast 3 mile run (22 minutes!) down the strip before we explored. I would recommend going before 9 am, because we did quite a bit of dodging and weaving! I gobbled down some Starbucks oatmeal and we were off! First we booked tickets to see Cirque du Soleil’s Mystere after our dinner. I was so excited.

Here are some pics of our day walking around (We walked 6 miles!)

After the Venetian we explored Paris and headed back to swim a bit and go to dinner and the show. Dinner was DIVINE- it made me understand what it means to eat quality v. quantity. I was so satiated with just a bit because the food was so wonderful it made anything else seem like a waste of time. Haha. Cirque was fabulous as well- the flexibility and strength of the performers was stunning. It was also such a funny show:) We tried to go dancing, but it was a bit ridiculous trying to get in, so we went to New York, New York instead and enjoyed an amazing show at a bar of Dueling Pianos. We played a bit of blackjack then hit the sack.

All in all it was a great trip. Not much gambling, but I love any place you can explore by foot. I would return in a heartbeat for the shows and good food.

Whew long post- well, lots of pics. I hope the captions show- if the don’t let me know and I’ll fix it! I’m off to do some in-house Bikram (my muscles ache and are so tired from yesterday!) and other errands. Have a great day!

My Mama’s Here!

Hello cyberworld!

Sorry for being M.I.A. all weekend, but my beautiful mother flew in Saturday morning and we’ve been having a blast ever since. Whenever I’m at my computer I’m furiously trying to research for my papers (thanks Veggie Girl for the support!).

This morning I did make a large bowl of oat bran for my mother and myself:

1/3 c oat bran, 1/3 cup soy milk, 1/2 banana, and Dark Chocolate Dreams PB! I think she enjoyed it. I know I did.

After breakfast we walked to the farmer’s market and got some artichokes (yum!), whole grain bread, salad stuff, and we stopped at Starbucks. I tried an unsweetened Vanilla Rooibos Tea Latte- YUM YUM YUM. I simply adored it. I want to try a London Fog next!

I’ll probably post sporadically while my mom is here the next week (during Finals!!), but I will try to keep up with your blogs.

Off to do some yoga then to cuddle with my mama! Night y’all.

Question of the Day: What is something you have introduced to your family to eat that otherwise they would have never tried? I have, in just 2 days, introduced my mom to oat bran, Chobani, KIND bars, and kale chips. She’s loved it all!
